TAIPEI – November 8, 2018 – KKday, one of Asia’s leading tours and activities ecommerce platforms, announced today its Series B+ funding co-led by LINE Ventures and the Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund. Existing investors, including CDIB Capital and Monk’s Hill Ventures, also participated with follow-on investments. The strategic funding will accelerate KKday’s efforts to leverage innovative technologies in travel bookings and experiences, and further its global expansion into new markets.

KKday, which launched in 2015, has been proactively expanding its business and its array of product offerings, curating more than 20,000 unique experiences in over 500 cities and 80 countries. Starting with its last round of investment, led by Japanese travel agency H.I.S., KKday has been deepening its partnerships with strategic investors to provide travelers with more in-depth and seamless travel experiences.

This new financing round led by LINE Ventures demonstrates a new angle to the continued strategic investor approach. As one of the world’s leading mobile messaging and technology companies, LINE Corporation provides its users with an integrated platform that features convenient daily life services, including mobile payment, retail shopping and news broadcasts.

The two parties will begin their first strategic collaboration later this month in Taiwan when LINE launches “LINE Travel,” a comprehensive in-app service that enables users to search and book flights, hotels, tours and activities, as well as to plan and share their itineraries with friends.

“Asia’s travel experience booking market has had explosive growth due to the changing of consumer behavior,” said Masato Endo, the Investment Director of LINE Ventures. “And KKday, as one of the companies leading this transitional growth, has a CEO who is an entrepreneur with repeated success in the online travel agency field, an experienced executive team, and many young and aspiring team members. Through KKday’s relentless passion to create the most satisfying customer experiences, we are positive that KKday has the potential to become Asia’s number one tours and activities booking platform.”

Chen Ming-ming, the founder and CEO of KKday, states, “The investment and collaboration with LINE is a huge breakthrough, not just for KKday, but also for the travel industry. We are committed to digitizing travel experiences with our partners, and are very excited to be working with LINE to build frictionless and seamless travel experiences for all travelers worldwide.” According to KKday, more global collaboration with LINE is in the pipeline.

Earlier this July, KKday announced financing from Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund and launched a flagship store under Fliggy, Alibaba Group’s travel portal in China. Within less than four months, Alibaba witnessed the rapid growth of the business and the great potential of the company, thus increasing its investments in KKday.

“Since our investment in July, KKday has demonstrated its strong execution capabilities in different markets and has shown exponential growth,” said Andrew Lee, the Executive Director of Alibaba Taiwan Entrepreneurs Fund. “KKday’s goal for global expansion aligns with Alibaba’s vision, and we are excited to join their journey and become a supportive strategic partner.”

With this latest infusion of capital, KKday is set to grow its operations in Japan, China and Korea, and expand into new markets including Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and the U.S.A. According to KKday, the investment details will remain undisclosed.

Everland of Korea joins hands with KKday for the first time to attract more Southeast Asian travellers

KKday recently announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Korea’s Everland on the employment of KKday’s marketing resources to attract more Southeast Asian travellers to Korea.

KKday, Asia’s largest travel e-commerce platform, recently announced the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in partnership with Korea’s Everland Resort, affiliated with Samsung C&T Corporation, to promote Korea as a tourist destination for Southeast Asian Travellers. The cooperation will focus on the exchanging of marketing resources and the enhancement of travel experiences. KKday is expected to help bring more self-guided Southeast Asian travellers to Korea, where they can experience what a world-class theme park has to offer.

The MOU signing ceremony took place at Everland Resort, with KKday, CEO Chen Ming-ming, and Everland Deputy General Manager Lee Dong-woo, as the representatives of the two sides. On the occasion they extolled their past bilateral cooperation while declaring that they will exchange their views and opinions with each other on publicity tactics, traveller experiences, promotional packages and marketing resources. They will jointly promote travel experiences in Korea so that more tourists, especially self-guided ones from the emerging markets of Southeast Asia, may be informed.

As the 2018 statistics (note 1) of inbound tourists provided by the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) show, Asian tourists account for 80% of all visitors arriving in Korea, with around 15% of them from Southeast Asian countries. Compared with the same figures last year, tourists from Vietnam increased the most, marking an annual growth rate of 26%. They are followed by Macao tourists with a growth rate of 24%, and Cambodia and Taiwan tourists who increased at the same rate of 13%. Next came Malaysian and Thai travellers, who increased by 11% and 8%, respectively.

Having great hopes for the markets in Southeast Asia, Everland Resort Deputy General Manager Lee says, “KKday is so far the first and the only overseas travel agency in the world that Everland has signed a MOU with. The main reason is that we have great expectations for KKday regarding its marketing experiences and market exploration capability in Southeast Asia. We hope that the cooperation will extend Everland’s market reach to Taiwan and Southeast Asia.”

KKday, a leading e-commerce travel platform that was established in Taiwan, has set up bases in 11 Asian countries and regions over the past three years. The bases are scattered in Northeast Asia, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia. With a global strategy complemented with creative localized marketing plans, KKday expects to cooperate with Everland in more diverse ways so that tourists from other Asian countries can be sure of their personal safety and travel convenience in Korea, and more special and top-quality travel experiences will be readily available.

KKday Product Development Manager, Huang Pei-ju, notes that Korea’s Everland is one of the must-go destinations for Asian tourists and that the number of people buying tickets to the park has been increasing year after year, with last year’s ticket sales growing one-fold from the previous year. To provide tourists with better travel experiences, “we have launched an online instant booking service. Tourists purchasing tickets via our App will get e-tickets instantly. Just scan the QR Code with your mobile phone, and you’ll be able to enter the park. No need to wait in line and thus saves a lot of time for travellers.. It is a service greatly welcomed by our users!”

Everland Resort, established in 1976, is operated by Samsung C&T Corporation. It has been rated by Fortune magazine of the U.S. as one of the world’s top four theme parks. The resort, located in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do, occupies an area of 1.6 billion square feet (3,676 acres). It is a tourist spot that integrates recreational, entertainment, educational and cultural functions. The resort is divided into three main areas: Everland Amusement Park, Caribbean Bay Water Park, and Golf Course. Tourists can take a shuttle bus to go directly from Seoul to Everland and experience the amusement park’s five themed zones in a relaxed way. There are more than 50 facilities for you to choose from. Close-range contacts with wild animals are also an attraction.

The Ultimate 2018 Cherry Blossom Roadmap

Locals and tourists flock to participate in the whimsical display of cherry blossoms every spring in Japan and South Korea. KKday, Asia’s largest travel platform, has organized The Ultimate 2018 Sakura Roadmap to help guide you on a tour of Japan and South Korea’s most beautiful blooms. Check below to see when and where you can expect to catch the pink petal show.
Japan
Kansai will be kicking off the cherry blossom (a.k.a. sakura) season. When in Kansai, seeing the blossoms in Kyoto is a must. Train enthusiasts can take The Sagano Scenic Railway through a cherry blossom forest. Choose to spend a romantic afternoon sightseeing while taking in views of sakura on a horse-drawn carriage, or opt to hop aboard the Hozu River Boat and cruise down the cherry blossom-lined canyon for some truly jaw-dropping photo ops at the famous Arashiyama Bridge. If you’re after something a little more low-key, sit back and let a rickshaw take you through petal adorned pathways then settle into your evening with a much-needed foot massage.

Make the most of the spring in Japan and head to Tokyo to enjoy the cherry blossoms. Chidorigafuchi Park and Ueno Park are must-see sights while in Tokyo. Chidorigafuchi Park is located on the western side of the Imperial Palace, and boasts the sight of a cherry blossom-lined moat. Looking down from the bridge, catch sight of petals drifting into the water below while the occasional boat rows by. Ueno Park features a variety of cherry blossoms; walk through the dense canopy of blossoms and take in amazing sights that locals have observed for centuries.

Pro Tip: Opt for the one-day bus tour to experience multiple sakura hotspots. Have the opportunity to walk through Arakura Sengen Shrine, and gaze at views of Mt. Fuji reflected in Lake Kawaguchiko, while observe the vibrant cherry blossom trees. Complete your tour with a stop at Gotemba Premium Outlets, which features over 200 stores and a 50-meter high Ferris wheel.
SOUTH KOREA
According to Kweather, South Korea’s most reputable weather source, Jeju will also be overflowing with pink cherry blossoms by late March. Mother Nature will then work her way up north and Seoul will be in bloom by April 8th.

Listed by CNN as one of the “50 Beautiful Places to Visit in South Korea”, Jinhae is nothing short of breathtaking. Located away from both Seoul and Busan, Jinhae is definitely worth a day trip to escape from that busy city life. Between April 1st and April 10th, you can see Jinhae at its finest during the Gunhangje Cherry Blossom Festival. As a testament to its beauty, multiple Korean dramas have been filmed on the bridge that crosses the cherry blossom-lined stream passing through the town. Admire the sight of trains passing through a cherry blossom forest at Gyeonghwa Station. Take a stroll through Jehwangsan Park and take in the stunning views of the entire city of Jinhae covered in sakura.

Pro Tip: For a truly remarkable cherry blossom experience, hit the road from Busan to Jinhae at noon. On your way to Jinhae, you’ll be able to spot cherry blossoms brightly lit against the pale blue sky. As the sun sets in Jinhae, take a stroll down the sakura trails. Learn more Here!
